A previous tech set up the W2K pro machines to log onto the workgroup, instead of the domain. I tried using scripts, but they wouldn't load on the W2K machines. I checked and found out about the workgroup problem. I change them to join the domain, and the user looses a lot of their personal settings. I went and right clicked on my computer, selected the user profile tab, and copied the old user profile to the new computer profile. (computername.username copied to domainname.username) and it appears the majority of the settings move with it. The only problem is some of the settings don't, (Can't install an ldap where it worked fine before), and the fact that I have about 30 of these machines to do. Is there an easier way? I can't use scripts because they don't log onto the domain. Thanks. Glen A. Johnson

Glen,

Make sure you change the PERMITTED TO USE when you copy the profile. Maybe you forgot to do this...

So, I'm going to copy the old account over to the new account, select permit to use, and select the new account, domainname.username, correct? Thanks Glen A. Johnson

When you select the profile and say copy to, under the browse button on the next screen that appears. I've figured it out and have created a word document with some pretty detailed instructions since I'm going to be giving this to others to use. If anyone wants, I can post it or e-mail it. I had to use two phases. Phase one was have the user actually join the domain, so the option to log onto the domain showed up. The second phase was copying over the old profiles to the new profiles. Let me know and thanks for the help. Glen A. Johnson
