Jobs starting randomly in Arcserve 11.1

Hi,

I have a job queue which looks something like this:

xxxxx Diff Start 19.00
xxxxx Diff Start 19.05
xxxxx Diff Start 19.10
xxxxx Diff Start 19.15

In Arcserve 2K, this would run sequentially. However, in one particular install of 11.1, it seems to pick randomly which job it wants.

i.e. if the time is 8pm, and the first job has just completed, rather than launch the next in the queue, it may launch the 3rd or the 4th.

is this normal?

Regards,
Paul

Hi,

Yes.. This is very much normal, becuase the job queue is being scannaed continuously for scheduled jobs .. and if the time for the job to kick off is come it would look to attached to the tape engine, which apparently would still be engaged by the first job..

When the first job completes, any one of the subsequent job which gains control of the tape engine wold kick off..

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

is there any way (reg hack) that it can be forced to look for the next one in the queue?

This randomness can prove to be unwelcome.

Not that I'm aware of..

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

This is apparently a "feature" of BAB 11.1. I too have this problem and raised a support call about it with CA. Like you I had a system which worked exactly as expected under Arcserve 2000. After much tooing and froing with the CA tech support guy, he went back to the developers and I got this response: "As discussed, unfortunately I have to confirm that ARCserve has never purported to run jobs in the order of scheduled time. The Job Engine checks the job queue in the order of scheduled time, but the actual timing of when resources become available allowing a job to run is not controlled."
