I have a back up job that has been working well for months, but stopped backing up one of two remotes servers this week,

All boxes running Server 2003
Veritas version 10.0 Rev 5484

The error message is:

Backup- RemoteServerName

Directory was not found, or could not be accessed.
None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.
Directory was not found, or could not be accessed.
None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

When I run the job in test mode, it works.
When I check the credentials, they pass.

I made a new selections list. No change.

I removed and reinstalled the remote agent. No change.

I tried creating a new job to back up just one folder, without using OFO, and I get the same results: It passes in test mode, fails in fun mode.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be most welcome

Thanks, Hardrock

You might check this setting on the server services. I was having simular prblems like this. [Check the “Service” Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers, it needs to be set to log on as: Local System Account.] To verify goto: Services/ Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers/ properties/Log On tab. Also have you tried deleting the device folder your backing up to and creating a new one...it might be currupted.

Good Luck

Test rund dont mean anythign they just test credentials and media. They dont test selections.

Have you turned on detailed job logging to determine what folder it may be looking for?

Hi, sujump and steveot, thank you both for your comments.

The problem was indeed related to server services.

It turned out that the business owner had installed a new application with out checking in with IT support (yours truly).

This app included the MySQL service which was set set to start up automatically.

Once this service was turned off, the backups started working again.
