I tried to compact/repair using the JetComp.exe feature but it failed and gave me a message "Error Compacting Database." Although it may seem self-explanatory on the surface, I'm not sure I'm using the utility correctly (new to this feature). I selected my database on the Source line, then selected a new blank database I had created especially for this purpose on the Destination line and clicked Compact. Am I doing this correctly?? Thanks.

in the source don't give it the name of an exiting database, enter a new name and jetcomp will create a new db using that name.
make sure if your database is access 2000 or higher that the additional compact option "destination is 4.x database format" is selected or if it's access 97 select "destination is 3.x database format"
