i've got a 1.6GHz P4, with 512MB of RAM, Geforce2 MX video card. 60GB HD at 7200rpm
however, when trying to play MPEG2 video in the preview monitor,
the playback stutters, and the frame rate is around 1-2 frames per second.
also, audio is not continuous.

an example clip that doesnt work:
---
File Size: 124.64MB bytes
Total Duration: 0:02:07:22
Average Data Rate: 998.06KB per second
Image Size: 720 x 576
Pixel Depth: 0 bits
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.067
Frame Rate: 25.00 fps

Audio: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
---

about the only things that play are the sample files on the CD.

specifically:
* the video clip plays if i right-click and choose "open in clip window"
* however, it doesnt play after i drag it to the timeline,
and click the play button on the preview monitor

my analogue video capture is in that format.
i've tried the support document, and defragged my HD.
Is my computer too slow? what can i do?

thanx!

found answer to my problem...

"MPEG is a compressed, distribution format; not intended as an edit source"

"Premiere is not designed to edit mpeg video"

(you'd need to convert your mpeg to AVI, then edit, then export to mpeg again)
