Java VM installation

I have aquired the Jave VM from Sun and extracted the MSI i am having a bit of a problem with regestering IE as the defauld browser Sun say "If you want to register the J2RE as the default VM for Internet Explorer, Mozilla and Netscape, you will have to create a transform that will set the variables IEXPLORER, MOZILLA, and NETSCAPE6 to 1 in th e property .idt table."

I'm not quite sure how to go about this as i can't find the "property.idt" table and i have never created a transform file. I have been to the Sun Java test site and it fails even tho Java is installed, i suspect this is the reason.

Has anyone managed this?

I just deployed the latest Sun Java using the following run command with the exe downloaded from Sun(I renamed it, it was too long for me)It runs completely silent.

j2re14205.exe /S /V"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 NETSCAPE6=1 MOZILLA=1 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 WEBSTARTICON=0 /L C:\java.log"

This is suppost to register J2re as default, thats what the "IEXPLORER=1" does. The /L C:\java creates an install log. If you want to use the MSI you will need a transform file, created with somthing like AdminStudio Installshield, and some time to learn it.

If you choose to go the MSI course give this a try. Im not real familiar with it but its free and it has the abality to create custom MSI's and create MST's.

Hi thanks for the reply, so i create a pre scan with WinInstall then do a silent install using these switches then do an after scan. Is this correct?

I think that would work for you. That would actually create a new MSI that would have the options you want preset.

Thanks i did create an MSI with the alterations and it works fine, i couldn't see how to create an MST file tho do you know how to create these?
