Evening all,
I was wondering if anyone has any idea why I can't get Java Virtual Machine for XP?
So many times we (multiple users in office) are on the web and need JVM to view a page. Evidently Micrososft doesn't support it in XP.
Any fixes?
Ideas?
Info?

Thanks in advance,
GatorDave

I think it is included in the Service Pack 1 for XP.

Anyway you can try these sites.

For 9x, ME, NT, XP msjavx86.exe is also available currently through a number of ftp sites such as:

ftp://ftp.redcom.ru/pub/support/windows/corporate/8.04/winxp/en/com_microsoft.internetexplorer6x/x86WinXP/com_microsoft.javavm_3319_MIL_4275/MSJavx86.exe
ftp://ftp.uq.edu.au/mirror/microsoft/patches/winxp/javavm_3319_MIL_4275/MSJavx86.exe
ftp://ftp.intergraph.com/ingr/pub/old/pub/federal/msjavx86.exe (probable, but not positive that this is 3805)

When I first installed XP (Home Edition), I was lost without the Virtual Machine ... I tried using the Sun Java Virtual Machine but it kept hanging on a few of the Yahoo! game sites ... and for those few Yahoo! game sites that it did seem to work, albeit for a short time, the display was a little weird ... some text too small, etc. So, I uninstalled the Sun VM and downloaded and installed SP1 from Microsoft. I was hesitant because I had read some bad press about SP1 but decided ... I needed my Yahoo! Gin fix. SP1 installed VM among other upgrades and so far I haven't had any problems.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Koldark,
I installed the Sun java when I did a clean install of XP as the MS version was not available (I thought). It worked but some business site such as my internet banking were extremely slow to load. I then found the MS VM on a third party site, downloaded it and installed after removing the Sun jave. Performance on these sites was much improved. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

Thanks to everyone for the info and the input. Loading the SP1 seems to have done the trick. I really appreciate the quick responses.

I've had no problems with Sun's Java 2 VM as long as I use version 1.3.1. It's still available on their site ( I've tried a couple of installations of 1.4.x but have found it doesn't work right with some games on the Web, including my favorite online crossword puzzle. I haven't found any incompatibilities in 1.3, though I admit I'm not a heavy user of Java-based games.
