Hi all,

when cfslider or cfgrid is used user can have trouble viewing the applet; if their browser is not Java enabled, they will see only the grey area where the control is suppose to be;
is there any other specifications required for a cfgrid tag?
what would be the easiest way for a user to make those controls available on his machine?
Is the Virtual Machine also a requirement? Sylvano

Hi Sylvano,

To view CfGrid and CFSlide wich are Java Applets, the user should have installed Java Virtual Machine. With IE 5.5 and below Microsoft shipped it with IE (it wasn't always installed standard, but could be optional), for higher IE versions you should download the VM from the SUN sites.

And no there are no other requirements. Only point to consider is that an applet is very slow when loading it on a site. So I suggest not to use CFGrid, but make your own grid in HTML, what is very easy, and works very fast and nice. And you have not to worry if your users have installed the Java VM.

Kind of off topic but its about java controls to.. Is there a sortable list control (like you see in outlook express and win 98 Find Files or Folders) in any language that works on the internet? I want to populate it with a cf list and have it do something onclick... Like.. goto view.cfm?item=#itemid#.

Thanks,
Tony Hicks

webmigit, with <cftree> tag you can build explorer-like tree, but that is also a Java control Sylvano
