The short answer is that Dexterity (the language behind Great Plains) does not understand double byte characters. So Microsoft will not support any double byte or unicode characters with Great Plains. See the KB article below:
However, I have seen products like RichWin used to allow Chinese characters to be entered into the non-key fields in Great Plains. There are some querks, such as having to press delete twice to delete a double byte character, but there are some sites out there using double byte.
Remember, that if you do this and have a problem with Great Plains, Microsoft will not support you if the problem cannot be replicated with only Single Byte characters.
