I've lost my own databasw window using startup options...

OK, It has been years since I've done anything in Access and I had completely forgotten about the dangers associated with this....

Basically I have created an application which I was finally happy with. Being a complete idiot, I went straight into the startup options and turned off all menus, the database window and the special keys option. Of course, I didn't do a save before hand, now I can never edit the final database again....

I know the help function hints at the ability to get the database window back by repeated use of the File / Last File shortcut, but this doesn't seem to work.

Any other suggestions?

Hold down the Shift key before opening your database and do not let go of the shift key until the database is open. This should give you access to the tables.

Thanks for that. I think part of the problem is that I also have the database in a user group so it forces a password to be entered --> I can't hold down the shift key all the time...

A general quick fix is importing the content of the db into a new one.

JB - even with the user group, you can still use the shift key. When prompted for user/pass - type your information. After you type your password, then press and hold shift and press enter. This will accept your credentials but will also use the bypass key as Hillary said. This should get you in, then you can change your options. Tom's suggestion is also on the money.

I did actually try holding down the shift key afer clicking ok on the password prompt, but did not get much joy. In the end I just gave up and went back to what I had done the day before. It took me half a day to get it back to "finished" state but got there in the end. I'll be sure to remember everyone's suggestions if I'm ever so foolish in future.

These are great forums here. I've actually solved several (large) problems by searching the forums - a wealth of information here. Thanks to everyone who makes this place what it is.

I think if you would have held down the shift key before clicking OK and continue to to have held it down until the database opened you would have been okay. Well, at least you got to where you needed to be : )
