Hello,

I posted a few weeks back about the problem of the "Search Results" window opening itself randomly and in multiples, I've rebooted after 30 or 40 before. I thought I had repaired it w/ TweakUI but apparently just postponed it. I have also tried System Restore to before this was a problem.

This is an annoying problem because I'll be working away, and all of a sudden BAM! I'm typing in the "Search results" box.

Hardware is an Asus M6N home-built laptop (Pentium M 1.6, 1 GB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HDD, XP Pro) running a Logitech DiNovo Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse and Sony external monitor.

At first I thought it was the keyboard sending multiple "search" requests, as it has a Search button, but if the Search button is held down it does not create multiple windows...in fact if this Search button is held down the problem is solved! I have the phone resting on the button now and the problem is gone.

I am going to try and use just the laptop by itself with no keyboard/mouse/monitor and see how that goes. In the meanwhile any other ideas will be appreciated!

I disconnected the external keyboard and the problem stopped...but then I plugged it back in and it has yet to repeat. Could it be Bluetooth interference???

Anyway I have an identical keyboard & mouse at home I plan on swapping them and seeing if the problem follows the hardware.

AHA! It is the keyboard. At least I think it is, as a lone "Search" page appeared on three separate occasions after installation. We'll see what happens tomorrow when the home keyboard meets the office PC...

Well, the multitudinous windows have reappeared, my fix was to press to "search" button as far down as it would go, them jam the end of a toothpick in there and break it off. Problem solved, and the repair is invisible. YAY ME!!!

Way to go Tony!

I'm gonna give you a STAR, friend, for persisting until you have found a solution, but most of all for keeping TT-ers informed, even when you got no replies! Well Done You!

LOL I feel like giving you a star as I agree that I should be rewarded for finding my own solution! Seriously that's what this forum is all about, sometimes people helping themselves will translate to helping others down the road [2thumbsup]

Cheers!

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.
