Issues with Epson FX-1170 Printer on XP

I am using the XP driver for Epson FX-1170, it works but the font is poor and the speed is terrible. I have changed the DPI using the XP setup but the font and speed are no where near as good as they were PRIOR to the XP driver. Prior to XP, we were driving it with Windows98.

they do not provide an XP driver for that model of the Epson.

Any ideas?

Need a little clarification here..

You say you are using the XP driver for this printer, yet, you turn around and say you can't find an XP driver for it at the Epson website !! How did you get the driver in the first place as Epson does not make either a Win2000 or XP driver for this printer !!

On the XP machine, when you "Add Printer", the Epson printer list includes a driver for FX-1170.

I assume this is a "simple" driver from Microsoft.

All it is loading is a generic Epson driver.. that is NOT a dedicated driver for that printer.. Epson doesn't make one for it so Windows can't have it !!

Help this guy out a bit. Have you tried using emulation on this printer?

I do not have one, but often the clever can find in the pritner documentation that it can emulate another printer for which there are drivers.

If Epson does not make a dedicated driver, I have found sometimes using an IBM or Dell or whatever driver for the same underlying print engine will work.

are you just printing straight text? you can try a generic print driver or an earlier version of any epson dot matrix printer.
