Just started installing Phone Manager on 50 PC's on our network and wanted to ask the experts on how best to do this.

The main issue I have when installing from the exe file manually on each PC is that the software doesn't put the IP Office program menu in the All Users > Programs area. Neither does it put a shortcut in the All Users > Startup folder. This has to be copied from the profile you initially installed the software in. This seems bizarre?

I have heard that you can run the software from a central share without having to touch a PC? Is this true?

Or is there a better way?

Putting pointers to the software in the all users area is not a roaming profile. If you install the software as an administrator then log back on as another user, Phone Manager is not accessible from the Start Menu.

Surely this is not the best installation method from Avaya?

Search for gpo.

Thanks tlpeter. This was useful.

For anyone else interested, I have managed to roll out PMP 4.2 by GP. The basic process was...

Run the exe installer until the first prompt. This extracts the msi file needed. I have Windows 7 and the file was put into C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\_is3DD9. Don't quit the installer until you have first found the file.

Put the msi file into a windows share where users can access\read the file. i.e. \\server\software\pmp.msi

Create and link a GPO to a OU or the domain. Assign the package under software installation in User Configuration. Set the package to install on logon.

You may have to alter the scope settings depending on your setup.

Job Done.
