Has anyone ever been able to bring up an ISL trunk between a CatOS switch and a 2924xl switch? The Cat5500 is the server, all 2924xl switches are configured as client, all in the same vtp domain. When everything is configured and brought up, all connectivity to the 2924's is lost, can't ping, no cdp info, nothing. On the 2924, cdp info from the Cat5500 is still there, everything appears fine, but it just won't work. As soon as the trunk encapsulation on both sides is changed to 802.1q, it works fine. Anyone else experienced this? If you were able to get it to work using ISL, how did you do it? I've fought with this for 2 days now.

I have around 20 x 2924XL connected via ISL to CAT5000s.

Fibre port on 2924XL
interface FastEthernet0/23
switchport mode trunk (Default is ISL)

CAT5000 (Ver 4.5) Card is WS-X5201R but also should be ok with WS-X5301
set trunk 4/5 on isl 1-1005

Note :
ensure portfast disabled
ensure port channel disabled
