hi guys..

i have about 7 subnets that i need to put on the router, and i want to use VLAN trunking so i can use ethernet sub-interfaces, so that my routing protocols will work flawlessly, as opposed to using secondary IP addresses..

problem is, all these 7 subnets are in one VLAN - VLAN 4.. but i realise i can only assign one VLAN to one ethernet sub-interface.. how do i bring up the remaining 6 sub-interfaces, which are also part of the same VLAN ID..?.. the router has simply refused to take it..

all help appreciated..

The only way I know that will work is to break your subnets up into separate VLANs. As long as the subnets are all on the same VLAN, you will have to keep doing secondary addresses.

ok, can the same VLAN ID exist on the different ethernet interfaces, but on the same router..?.. for instance

int fa0/0.1
encap dot1q 3

int fa0/1.1
encap dot1q 3

i know u can't have the same VLAN ID on the same major interface.. but can u have the same VLAN ID on different major interfaces.. on the same router..?..

all help appreciated..
