ISDN for Dummies ?

Hi All

I've got a G3si ECS r6.something and we've ordered a new PRI T for local lines. Everything else is standard, non ISDN. I know we've all the necessary boards to use ISDN, I'm just a little unsure about creating the link for the D channel to talk to the processor unit, etc.

Does anyone know where I can find a real "Installing your first ISDN T (including trunk group settings) for Dummies" ?!

I am going through this exact thing myself. Installing our first PRI lines. We are actually converting all of our T lines. Clausen has been very helpful in helping me out. See the thread below

Thanks for the link, very helpful indeed. As always, leaves me with a few questions though.

Looking at form for the "add signalling group x" command it wants the "trunk group for channel selection". What happens if the PRI T is split into more than one trunk group ? I.e. the D channel plus 11 on trunk group 9 and the other 12 channels on trunk 10 ?

Here's the backstory (long)...

We're in a nasty situation with an office move. We've got 6 long distance Ts with about 100 toll free numbers, and AT&T can't get our Ts installed until 3 weeks after we've moved. So, we're getting all that traffic routed onto a local, PRI T.

So, we have 100 toll free numbers which will be set to ring on regular local numbers. We would then set up a trunk group so that the 4 digits incoming from Sprint are deleted and replaced with the DNIS of the toll free number. i.e. 800 888 8888 rings to DNIS 2000. We change it to a local number 305 305 3050. Incoming calls get those last 4 digits stripped and replaced with 2000.

As far as I can see we can only setup about 20 of those "redirections" in a trunk group, so we'd have so set up 5 trunk groups each with 4 or so ports to accomplish the redirections.

Anyone with me so far ? Didn't think so. If anyone is, am I going about this the right way ? Should I get a huge salary increase for dealing with this kind of nonsense !? At least it's a "creative" solution !

Not totaly sure on this one, using E's rather than T's this side of the pond, not aware of having to put an entry in a Trunk Group for channel selection field - well we don't have any on the 3000+ trunks that I play with and they seem to work ok.

On the digit manipulation front another aproach that may be benificial is the use of trunk group digit handling to insert a string that sends all of the required range of digits to either AAR or ARS digit-conversion tables and handle the conversion there I think the G3Si should have enough entries to cope with 100 numbers (manuals I have are for different release.
