Hi All, I get a mixed response form ISDN dial ups, some go straight in and then some give me Network error and some just take forever, any ides why I might be getting different results from switch to switch?

I also find that some Avaya configs take ages to load even when connected to the switch via a LAN

Am I missing something?

Any help would be appreciated :)

It depends on software levels, connection type (true ISDN or ISDN over IP).
Release 9.1 is worst on loading, it takes ages and often it fails, retrying two three times works.

Actually V10.0.0 through V10.0.2 inclusive must e the worse , they simply do not work you need at least V10.0.3 for ISDN Connection

I find that Validation of the cfg on load is usually the biggest cause of apparent slow loading

Thanks for your help, do you recommend, putting the ipo in dial in mode? or set the 192.168.99.0 network in the dial in properties?

whichever works best

setting dhcp to dailin is easiest if you have an ISDN terminal adapter.

I use an IP Office with services to each of the sites I administer as a gateway on my network, it is in the 192.168.99.0/24 subnet, This means I can easily to connect to either type of configuration without worrying how it is configured.

I like the idea of setting up services, do you have an example of the config or how to set it up? Do you manually start the services or is that done by the IPO when it see traffic on a particular route?

it is a simple case of setting the username, password & telephone number*

dialup is automatic if you have an IP route set with the correct destination.

*You can also use the IP tab to set the source IP address if needed & PPP/bandwidth settings can be used for channel bonding if req.

Hello, I have the services dialling up a treat but then no config is appearing, can you assist please?

Hello, is there a version of 9.1 that does work, typically most of my sites are on this load?

We have loads of sites on 9.1 that we dial into, never had any issues.

Thanks Pepp, I am using services to dial in and it works on all other V8, V7 but not 9.1, what version are you on or can you help with any programming?

I can also confirm I use Services in an IPO to initiate my connections to all of our IP Offices & have experienced no problems with connections (except for V10.0.0 -10.0.2 which Avaya broke for everyone)

if you are getting a connection are you routing data correctly (system monitor on your local system can help with this just enable everything in the ppp filter).

remember you still need to know if the remote system is set to give an address by DHCP or set your connection to use the correct ip address for remote access (usually 192.168.99.x)

Thank you, I can see the connection go out on system status and connect, however I cant ping the IPO or see it manager, I have the IP route set to 192.168.99.10, I will try it as all zero and see whether that helps, perhaps I have that one set to dial server mode

running a trace route at the command line will help you identify where it is failing

Thank you I am in now, its very slow to respond and sometimes comes up with network error on this 9.1 service dial up, can I make sure that 2 channels are being used?

Thank you, yes we have the IPO as the GW on the PC used for this :)

Ah I use an ISDN modem on a computer to dial in, have never used the IPO services for this - in fact this is something I have never been shown and don't know how to use :(

chec out the help files for services (it is a much forgotten feature since broadband took over the world)
in its most basic it is simply a matter of filling in the blanks & setting up an IP route to use it.

you can get much more complicated as well for example channel bonding & Dialback (where the remote system calls you back to complete the connection).

I once used this to demonstrate to a customer that it was his data link that was killing SCN not the IPO :)

FTP://aware.servebeer.com/pub/IPOffice_1.cfg is the bare minimum needed to connect to a default IP office.
I have used 192.168.99.1 fro the Lan 1 IP address so there is no need to force IP address if the remote unit does not have DHCP enabled
I would also recommend increasing the default timeouts & switching off "Do Not Keep Link Up for Incoming Traffic" in the PPP tab if you don't want the connection to drop half way through downloading a large config or when running a trace.
(this may be the cause of Paulos' problem)

I have over 400 services in my IPO, one limitation I have found is it current firmware (in fact anything V1.4 and above!) does not like more than 98 IP routes - an old 403 running V1.2 firmware did not seem to have this limitation but a 412 is probably better as it has pace for a bigger cfg.
