i have given a user this short code to force just them to make calls over the sip connection the other users use the ars form with the pri . when dialing out the user gets a dial tone but then nothing after typing the number in. i use the same options on my office system with the same provider and it works fine. should this work?

as long as your IPO is using DNS to resolve that host name......

you are better setting it up in the ARS then you can use a fail over route if SIP fails.

But I take it your IPO training didnt cover any of this right?

my week of training had no training re sip trunks. and not a lot about shortcodes which i am learning is a major part of these systems. but there was quite a lot of chat between other students and tutor about old nortel systems.

Could that be part of the problem with some of the questions, the techs are not getting the right training?

Not getting shortcodes in a basic training means bad trainer.
It is all about shortcodes.
