I use Dreamweaver to build my HTML pages. Just recently I need to be able to create a basic HTML form, that basically collects user information like name, title, address, phone number, etc. Once the user types in all the info in the form, I need to pass that onto an online database to store all the records. Then I need the ability to take that database and import it into MS Access to distribute to different departments in the company. So my question is, is this something I could do relatively easy in UltaDev 4, considering my knowledge of programming is close to zero.

Thanks!

well to each their own, but personally while I grumble at the one size fits all code, and the lack of doing unique items. UltraDev 4 makes it easy. Drop and drag stuff will have you set right up.

and oh - cut out the middle database, you can go right from form into Access Database.

Don't be mislead though - I think that probably 95% of the people who have UD4 got to be like What the Heck, how do I... Recordset!?!?!? ODBC?!?!?! But I've got to get this up TODAY!!!! ARGHGHGHGHGHGH.

I know I was.

But you WILL run into that with any program. "some" might be easier for "some" people. But making a database connection once or twice - and you'll be doing it so fast - it'll seem like an irritable fly that you need to swat.

And you can do as much as you want too. Simple entry forms? no problem, want to pull images? Little tweak but not difficult. This is where you can begin to learn ASP and what it has to offer. I have not found limitations yet. Well one - but that was on refresh rates in a ASP chat room.

Personally I think UD4 is great, it does the HTML so easily.... the danger is you'll forget how to do html by hand. Some people love Microsofts Visual Developer. But I've also heard some hosting companies will not allow those extensions. Some love Front Page - personally I can't stand Front Page. So while my knowledge of ASP builds, i'm sticking with UD4. There are no extensions to worry about - just does your webhost support ASP.

I agree with Schase UD4 is an excellent package and you always have us to help you :-) Live long and make your kids suffer..

Thanks for the replies....unfortunately, I just found out that my webhold (Earthlink) does not support ASP, JSP or ColdFusion. Woe is me. :-(

not necessarily,

Check out brinkster.com or do a search for a free web host. We can also point you in the direction of some very reasonable webhosts.

The only problem with brinksters free - well couple of problems.

No email,
very limited bandwidth
no ftp.

but it's a great testing site.

Thanks Stuart.

I'm doing this work for a small company, and they can afford to pay a montly webhost. Who do you recommend that's the most reliable with good customer service?

Brian

i've had horrible experiences with hosting.com i'd run the other direction when I hear their name.

you can check out They're dirt cheap, and while I have access to a server myself - I use them for a hobby website. I've had nothing but very good luck with Matthew over there. "Insert witty remark here"

Just a disclaimer.

I am not affiliated in anyway with Brinkster or Stormhosts. I only use Brinkster for a test site (or did) and I pay for hosting at Stormhosts.

Just a happy customer. "Insert witty remark here"
