Hi all,

I used to copy IOS of router to tftp for backup. But i can't get a IOS of pix 5155e to my tftp server.

I just register with cisco to have my VPN-3DES-AES enable, before do any configuration i'd like to backup IOS. I got running-config file backup but not IOS.

Still doesn't work

according to the guide, i did this:

pixfirewall# copy flash tftp

Source filename []? image.bin

Address or name of remote host []? 192.168.1.2

Destination filename [image.bin]?

%Error copying flash:/image.bin (Inappropriate file type or format)

and don't know why it doesn't work

Based on the output from my PIX 501 running 6.3(5) it doesn't look like you can:
Code:
pixfirewall-1# copy
Not enough arguments.
Usage:  copy capture:<capture-name> tftp://<location>/<pathname> [pcap]
        copy http[s]://[<user>:<password>@]<location>[:<port>]/<pathname>
                flash[:[image | pdm]]
        copy tftp[:[[//location][/pathname]]] flash[:[image | pdm]]
pixfirewall-1#

This might be different with PIX OS 7.x or 8.x. What version is it you have? You should be able to download it from CCO if you have the relevant access.

There is a problem that i am not really clear

when i type "sh configuration" in pix command, it shows me this:
=====================
pixfirewall# sh configuration
: Saved

and local
PIX Version 6.3(5)closed items immed
interface ethernet0 auto shutdown

interface ethernet1 autoverning Cisco cryptograp
interface ethernet2 auto shutdown

But when i type 'sh running-config', it shows me below
=====================
pixfirewall# sh running-config
PIX Version 7.0(2)
names
!
interface Ethernet0
nameif inside
security-level 100
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

..............
=====================

"sh running-config" is telling me my pix version is 7.0(2) when "sh configuration" is telling me my pix version is 6.3(5) !!? Really confuse what pix version i have, since i got this router from one of my friends. Which one should i base on ? sorry, new to pix, Thanks.

If it says one thing in the config and something else when you do a 'show version' the chances are the configuration was saved under one version but then upgraded/downgraded and the config hasn't been saved. However PIX 7.0 introduced LOTS of changes that I think made the configuration look different (more like an IOS router). I suggest you issue the command 'write mem' and then reload it and see what it says then.
You can download PIX 6.3(5) or 7.0(2) from CCO so there is no real reason (unless you intend to corrupt the flash?) to back it up.
