I use Spybot, Ad-Aware SE. and Spy Sweeper when I work on-site. Is something available that is even better than this combination to rid a machine of these problems? Thanks

lock down you cookies settings.

unfortunately, many sites state in their "privacy statements" that you authorize them to place cookies on your machine in order to access it. these cookies allow the sites advertiser to gather info on your surfing habits in order to target sales junk mail to you.

if you deny that placement of their cookie the site sometimes will not allow you access. it's a catch 22!

i just use Adware once a week to clean out a lot of them and quarentine some of the bad actors.

For information assisting in manual removal of malware try Bazooka and HijackThis (use with caution)..

For innoculation try JavaCool SpywareBlaster and / or SpywareGuard.

I use SpywareBlaster, Spybot (using the immunisation functionality but not TeaTimer settings protection) and AdAware at home (plus the usual firewall and AV), and have not had a malware problem in several years.

Find out what a host file can do for you. There are well over 30K URLs that you should never browse to knowingly or unknowingly (mostly 3rd party incidental content). Such a file blocks access to all listed URLs:
