if the portal you are talking about, is Red Hat Network functionality used for example to use uptodate, then, yes, it's free

Yes it's open source which means it's free but I kinda like phpnuke myself.

phpnuke? how does that relate to portal server. I assumed phpnuke would be something that would bring down a php server.

has any one found any documentation on portal server? Maybe a walk though or something to that affect

Glad I stumbled across this thread. I didn't know RH had a free portal server. I've been using E107, and I like it a lot. I'm definitely going to check out the RH one though. It looks like it has some nice features.
