Hello,

My XP has ben upgraded to Service Pack 2.
I see the SP update at the "Add/REmove Programs".
I would like to remove it but I am afraid that things won't work afterwards and that there will be side-effects that will cause me to reinstall Windows all over again... Has someone tried to uninstall it?

If you care to elaborate on the problems you found with SP2 somebody may be able to assist you on that point?

It would be a shame if you had to forgo SP2 as it is such a major update to XP.

thelordoftherings,

I would echo linney's comment on you possibly posting what problems you are seeing before you remove SP2.

SP2 has been out for long enough that most any problem can be addressed and solved.

Good Luck

The only problem I've found so far with SP2 is that Search in Explorer crashes the system if there is a virus checker installed. This is because one of the DLL's (I can't remember which one) registry entry has been clobbered by the virus checker. It is the one that looks for malicious javascript. All you need to do is correct the registry entry. If you look up MSDN, it will tell you which entry to reinstall.

10X both of you, I don't have any problem with SP2 but I didn't had any problem before that. I simply think that it overloads the PC for nothing. Since most of it's updates are security ones using good FW software will do.
