Our Helpdesk has been getting a few calls from outside numbers coming in asking for peoples passwords for various applications, ie webmail, Voicemail etc. These are of malicious nature. Is there any way to track the outside phone number from the point it hits the reception switch and is transferred to the helpdesk?

All i would like to see is a print out of the calls hitting the main business number daily or DID to extensions and then a list of all numbers and times. Is this something that is built in and has to be enabled or 3rd party S/w.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

that will trace all calls to that station for 24 hours.. if your running procomm, write a script that captures that to a file and starts itself once a day... it's going to be a large file

CALL REF # = 4101
BEARER CAP = VOICE
HLC =
CALL STATE = 10 ACTIVE
CALLING NO = 803555555 NUM_PLAN:E164 TON:NATIONAL ESN:NPA
CALLED NO = 5551234 NUM_PLAN:E164 TON:SUBSCRIBER ESN:NXX

if you have the Malicious Call Trace package you can also add the Trace key to your help desk phones, that way they can hit the trace and it will give you the time and number stamp in the history. Then you can go check as needed when they tell you they used it. it is also possible to activate a voice recorder with the trace key if that would be needed later for possible prosecution of the caller.

i stopped calls like that at a site once, had the att transfer the caller to 911.. strange, no more late night calls..

Thanks very much guys for the feedback, Pretty near got it, When I try to Trace I get a TRA 305 message, looked it up and appears that I need Multi_user turned on,
(Switch is Ver2111 Release 25 ISSUE 15+)
I went into LD 17 and did a CHG OVLY and at the Prompt Multi_user I typed in ON and then pressed enter. I see in in my X11 software guide that i might have to initialize the machine. Whats that mean? reboot it? recompile software...

Next I went into LD 80 and Tried an ENTC 5 6 0005 (which my phone is on TN 5 6) And the time period is hopefully 5 minutes? Since I changed this setting and still have LD80 open I have noticed that when I try to Dial from any phone (m2616) outside the company it is very slow to process, Is the lag time due to the tracing that going on? is this normal?

PS - I'm Using Hypertermial PE via 56Kmodem to access the phone switch.

How come I don't see the nice trace stats when I call my TN do I need to use a different Terminal Software?

Best Regards

trash the dyperterm and buy a copy of procomm.. it will pay for itself the same day if you learn scripts.. i have never needed to ini to enable multi-user.. if your getting trash from the trace screen at 8 none and 1, try 7 even and space.. that can clean up longer strings
