I have some 2501 routers I would like to play with. Is it still possible to get a newer IOS like 12.0 or newer for them? Mine has 11.2.9a on them. I would like to be able to do NAT/PAT translations on them if possible.
Old 2500 routers have a very limitted amount of flash memory. This is a limitation for the upgrade to newer versions. Also, you may have to select a basic IOS flavor, like IP only, or IP PLUS, that require less flash memory. For sure, first verify your flash/RAM memory available and check with the requirements as published in CCO Software Center.
Probably one of the best things that you can do is to purchase smartnet on one of your devices. That will give you access to versions of ios for the device.
As far as Flash and ram goes they are cheap enough go to kg2.com and order flash 16mb and ram 16mb when you do ask Kelly for a rom bios upgrade. That will give you the latest version.
The modular cables are great too keeps down the wear and tear on the routers.
2500 series routers will take you all the way through the routing portion of CCNP and IP you will need either an enterprise or service provider load for the isis portion.
Or just run what you have and rent I share my gear for 4.00 persession.
i want to do an ios upgrade to my cisco 2501... im looking for a 12.1(5) i dont have cco access and dont want to pay for it... im a poor ccna student...
can anybody here help me?
i saw an upgrade for the 2500 series routers for 19 bucks up there. since cisco has discontinued the 2500 software for it is cheap i guess. you can always try kazaa but its illegal to download it without buying it. plus you never know who might be watching. good luck.
