I'm in a school that distributes laptops. We connect to the network using Wireless Xircom CWE1120. While they come preloaded with Win98 I chose to install win 2k prof. Everything was working fine until a week ago. I can't get on the network or the internet. What I would like to know is: Is it possible for the network admin of the school to not allow connections by win 2k prof nodes? What else do you think could be a problem. Keep in mind that this setup was working for about 3 months flawless.

Aloha,

James

The sysadmin can deny you access to the internet if they are using a proxy server. Are you receiving an IP address from a DHCP server? If so, can you ping other nodes on the network?

ChrisP

I can't ping anybody, in fact an icon in the task bar indicates that I'm not on the network at all.... Now that I think about it maybe it's not the sysadmin. I still think they did SOMETHING though, cause now I'm off. Very weird, but weird is normal with Windows right?? (hehehe)

Thanks alot.

Aloha,

James

Are you receiving an IP address that is valid on the network?

ChrisP

nope, no ip. I did, however, find the problem. In the SSID for the Wireless card I needed to enter a value "campus" in this case. It works perfectly now. Thanks for you time.

Aloha,

James
