I installed software for a Canon Sureshot S230. After that, I get a blue screen with the IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS only when I shut windows down. I unistalled the drivers and software as it was the only new thing I installed in about 2 months. I still get the error. I know it is related to a device driver, but how can I tell which one is causing this. I never had this problem until I installed the new software. Canon is no help since the responded with a generic response. Its no big deal in a way, since it is only when I restart or try to turn off the PC, but it is just annoayhing.

I have SP-1. I also have Roxio Easy Cd Creator 5 and I saw that that is a major cuase of this type of error. MY question is that I have been using my new PC for months with ECCD 5 and never had a problem before. I will go home tonight and install the newest update and see if that solves the problem.

At least I'm not getting any problems running, only when I shut-down.

I have you more thing. I had modified my install of ECCD by adding the Cd-labeler. I read on their web-site that if you make any modifications to the install on XP, you need to re-run the update patch. If that is the problem, I will be very pissed at Roxio, and will owe Canon an apology for blaming their software.

I have actually encountered this same error message, except it appears in a less friendly manner.

I'd be doing my business and then POW!! blue screen with the same IRQ error message.

Windows politely suggests buying a new video card.

I just gave up on trying to fix the problem, and figured "You need a new system anyway", so I'm in the process of upgrading.

I didn't have the Roxio installed, because XP didn't support DirectCD, and ended up dual-booting with ME for my burning needs.

Sorry guys, but I don't think Roxio is the problem. If you sting me, I won't mind.

WIth all respect to the guy above, Roxio did cuse my problem. I re-ran the udpate patch and my problem vanished.
I'm glad I researched around as I would have had no idea that adding the CD Label option in ECCD 5.0 would kill my system. Thanks Roxio!

There was this absolutly kick ass site (with proper spelling) that I came across on microsoft.com which defined these stop errors, what caused them, possible fixes etc... Very technical = very cool :) Unfortunatley I cannot remember where I put that link (darn short term memory).

If anyone finds it (it is a microsoft web site, with a RED header. It looks different from standard Q/KB/TN articles. The navigation is left/right only. So yea, If you find it - please post it. I would love to have it back in my list of resources.

thanks
