We have a customer running an SE in AWS (SE Virtualized Lic) and they want to move to Proxmox. We've done the install from .iso with no probs, but the licenses are all showing "dormant".

Sysmon has this ominous error: "IP OFFICE IS UNUSABLE: RUNNING IN VIRTUALIZED ENVIRONMENT IS NOT SUPPORTED".

I saw posts from @lleeNC & @derfloh in this thread:

Specifically was hoping that @lleeNC had completed writing up the guide :p

I didn't do the Proxmox setup myself, so not sure what options were selected, hoping that there's a switch that was flicked wrong and it's an easy fix to make IPO all happy and warm in its new environment lol.

The ISO while usable for upgrades on a virtual machine can only be used for a new installation on a physical server. If it's installed in a VM it detects that and won't run.

I have successfully run IP Office on Proxmox using the R12 HyperV image (IpolCPEHyperV-...) by converting the HyperV image over to the Proxmox qcow2 format and it seemed to work fine bearing in mind this is not an Avaya supported configuration.

Here's the VM configuration on Proxmox:

We had this issue with a client who tried to install the .iso for AppServer on a bunch of different physical servers (then called us after it didn't work) - he couldn't get the install to run.

We did get the install done on Proxmox, but hit the licensing issue, so I thought it might be something different.

We can give the Hyper-V or VMware conversion a shot. Customer has R11.1 licensing, so going to go with that version rather than R12.1 (unless there's a compelling reason to upgrade).

It comes up with the license error but it's really because the wrong media was used. The same license will work fine if you use a VM image to install rather than the ISO.

To be quite honest I regret upgrading to R12 as there have been so many issues with it mainly with Voicemail Pro and One-X services randomly stopping and not recovering as well as issues sending instant messages in Workplace. Not to mention the LAN1 interface getting a default route that it shouldn't be and breaking external connectivity which is supposed to go through LAN2.

I've just upgraded the production environment to SE 12.1 SP1 this week on VMware and so far it seems stable but it's still a bit too early to tell.
