I currently have a client with R9 Essential/Preferred with VMPro. Setup is basic, with one group with 6 analog lines, and 8 extensions with VM. Currently, all lines are ringing on all phones.

Several users have requested to have the ability to turn line ringing off, but leave internal ringing on. I can think of several ways to do this permanently, but none to toggle it on and off.

My questions are:

1) Is there a way to program a button to turn line ringing on and off for outside calls only? If so, how?
2) What is best practices for turning off outside line ringing for a particular user/extension?

Thank you!

If the calls a ringing to a hunt group then give the users a huntgroup enable/disable button. You'll need to give them permissions in the user setup to the groups they are allowed to login/out of

(If you have Line Appearance buttons programmed: Remove them!)

- Assign 2+ Call Appearance buttons to all 8 users, reserve last CA.
- Create Huntgroup ABC, make all 8 users member
- Create Huntgroup XYZ, make all 8 users member, set overflow timer to 3600 sec (or more), Overflow to HG ABC, Immediate Overflow: No Agents.
(The ABC and overflow part applies if you don't have Voicemail activated on the HG)
- ICR for the Line Group> VM:ModuleName> Whatever programmed> Huntgroup XYZ
- Assign Huntgroup Enable-button for HG XYZ to the 8 users (it toggles)

When they want to turn off outside calls, use the HG button.

And if setup without Voicemail:
The "G" in the display will not go away if they are members of other HG
If all 8 users go HG disabled, the calls will overflow and start ringing anyway on HG ABC.
(this to prevent a mission critical failure of no-one coming through)

That should take care of both your questions.

Kind regards

Gunnar

You guys are great! jhall123's answer solved the problem, but I wondered about everyone shutting off ringing. I planned to not have that button programmed on several extensions just in case. We do have VM Pro setup.

Gunnaro's solution is very creative for situations with no VM - kudos!

I know you have VMPro [smile]
You just didn't specify if you had Voice messaging activated on the HG or not, so you got the combo answer.

Kind regards

Gunnar
