Hi, I have inherited an IP403 and bricked it by trying to upgrade. I hope one of you might be able to help get it back functioning.

I have it to a point where the status light on the front panel is red. I have taken out the trunk cards since I heard this is the first step in recovery. I can see the loader message (v0.81 4MB Flash on CPU revision 0x0502) through the serial port and enter AT-X commands (AT-X, AT-X2, AT-X3, AT-X4) and get Erase responses, but when I restart the 403 afterwards I don't get the stream of bootup messages.

The 403 has an IP address of 192.168.42.6 and my XP machine is on the same subnet (I have a crossover LAN cable so it's just the two of them). I can see using Wireshark that the 403 is sending out a BOOTP request every second or so but the Manager is not responding to them. I think I have Windows firewall turned off and I uninstalled ZoneAlarm in case it is interfering.

I have the software v3.0 on CD (Manager v5) but suspect I may need an earlier version.

Anyone please got any suggestions where to go from here?

Thanks,

Graham

OK, real progress. It was Windows firewall, in some half-up state, blocking Manager from responding to the Bootp/tftp requests. Once that was sorted and with some craziness around paths in Manager, I got the ip403 to load ip403.bin v1.99 from Manager. and then with a bit of luck I got it to upgrade to v2.99 and on rebooting, appear to recognise its trunks and so on. So it looks like I'm away.

Just a couple of things, though, maybe you patient guys can help with:

when running, the orange lights on DT ports 3-7 inclusive are lit steady. DT port 8 light blips green every now and again. any idea what all that means?

In the received config, there are apparently 0 licenses. There is a dongle device with 25-pin DIN at both ends- I have it plugged in to the PC's parallel port, and the license server running on the PC apparently recognises it and the PC's IP address is set in the ip403's config. Yet- 0 licenses. Now, I got this unit secondhand and it's possible there aren't any special licenses attached to it- but why would there be a dongle there, if there were no licenses?

Thanks

Graham

Those licenses are on the dongle but you have to put them in to the ipo manualy

Do you have the dongle number ?

You said you got it on 2.99 and your away. Sort of. 2.99 is not a running software. use 3.0DT from the Avaya support site. 3.0(580) being the latest.

The licenses are not there as AT-X deleted the config and as said above you will need to put them back in again. Then the IPO will contact the License server and valicate them with that.

If you have an old copy of the config on your PC copy them from there into the new config.

Or if you look in the Manager folder for the files that are named as follows Powerdial SOE-2009-04-07-V1.BAK (my system name is Powerdial SOE) the numbers after the name is the date the file was created, it is a backup of the config that is made when you change sonmething, open this file with Manager and you should see your licence in there :)

5.0 manager only stores one backup. system.bak. not dated ones.

tlpeter: I do have the dongle number but I am not confident I have a backup of the config file containing the licenses.

Is there any other way to recover them?

I put on the 2.99 ip403.bin from the 3.0DT package. I will upgrade it to the 3.0(580) ip403.bin later today.

There seems some doubt whether I can upgrade past 3.0DT. There are software downloads for it and some tech documents say it is suitable for an IP403, but the main release notes don't mention 403 at all. Do any of you know the position for sure?

Some people here can give you all the licenses that are activated on the dongle

You can not put in an email address here but on you can PM me

Send me the dongle number there and i will respond

If you have DT (INDeX) phones then they will not work properly and are not supported past 3.0DT.

If you bin the INDeX DT's then the 403 will go as far as 3.2. After that it is at least a new control unit.

If you are happy with what you have then stick it on 3.0DT. If not, it's time to get your BP involved in going higher.

Star for you, even when it is spam !!!
I love this tool and i use it for more then 5 years now !
Please program it so it can run as a service and built in a http server too.
If you can then it is even a greater tool then it already was.
Easy to install and maintain.
