Hi everyone, Ok here my situaton...

I have a Win2k Server on my network and a Linux redhat Machine.

Win2k : 192.168.0.1
Readhat : 192.168.0.8

When the Win2k Box gets a request on Port 80, I'd like it to forward it to port 80 on the redhat box.

How do I go about doing this, I have got it working using a shareware app, however after about 10 requests it cuts out :(

I know this must be possible, i just dunno how, please HELP!

So what your saying is Dan, that in the interfaces, the PPP he is using for the USB modem should show up... (and a little light bulb winks on) Matt Wray

Before I try this any ruin my whole setup :), were your last comments Matt that this isnt possoble or it is?

Cheers

It looks to me like it is.. Though I've never done it that way. What Dan says makes sense, I just never thought of that, that's what the light bulb was.. Matt Wray

I forgot why you can't use a proxy server? or have IIS on the win2000 machine point to your webserver.

Matt,
Yes, that is what I am suggesting. I can't say for sure that it will work, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

snooze,
He could do both of your suggestions, but in a previous post he stated that he did not want to run IIS because if it's security risks. And why pay for a proxy server when NAT will do the job?

SpeedDemon,
Let us know what you find out. I wouldn't worry about messing up your entire configuration, just delete NAT and turn ICS back on if all else fails :)

Hi all, well, listen to this...

I got the latest apache build and installed on my Win2k server, using a proxy command I was able to route traffic throught Apache, very nice I think :)

Fast, robust and no need to mess up my server :)
I did try converting over to nat, however my WinMe cleints could no longer connect to the network, I begin having VPN and IP issues, so I went back to the original system and configured apache,

One last thing, when ever a VPN client has logged in for say an hour, the server crashes due to an error in tcpip.sys, I dunno why this occurs. Im running service pack 2, is there a service pack 3?

If so where do I download it, also, hotfixes, where do I get these?

Cheers all.

IIS nor Proxy will do this. A proxy server need to be NAT enabled (most are) in order to accomplish this. Bottom line is you need NAT. This will work on the USB DSL modem because it creates a virtual interface, I've done it but its messy! What's wierd is if you have a static IP is why do you need to login? Having that dial-up connection means you login using PPOE usually for dynamic IPs.Weird? Your best bet is to spend $85 and buy a Linksys DSL router 4 port switch, this unit will login using PPOE for dynamic or static IPs it also has builtin NAT (so your server does not do the processing) and also acts as a simple firewall.
I would contact your ISP and let them know you want to switch from USB to ethernet some require change on the account (done over the phone, nothing major)

Good Luck!
