Here is the scenario, CM-R1.2,medpro,clan, on customer Lan. Site 2 is via pt to pt data network. We changed Codec to 729, from 711, but still static. Is there a way in the definity to status clan and verify packet drops and whose side its on? What troubleshooting does everyone use? Is there doc's on where to look and what may be the issue? Also, they are stating that the phones reboot by themselves periodically?

Thanks!

A few things I would do for starters...

Enter the command “list measurements CLAN Ethernet (board location)” are there any collisions? If there are, it could indicate that the ethernet switch port is bad or set to the wrong speed.

Upgrade the firmware on MedPro and CLAN cards to the latest release.

Do a ping test from one site to the other. What are the response times? If you get good response times, is there a variance in the response times? It should be pretty consistent.

CLAN board won't cause pops or statics, CLAN is just there control, not audio.

Place a call on the IP phone to a digital phone or something external, just something that'll cause you to hit the medpro board.

Then do a "status station xxxx" then on the 3rd or 4th page you can see statistics..

You might also check the WAN T1, make sure the clocking is right, verify there are no slips, crc errors, etc...

How is the bandwith? Is your voice and data on different vlans or is there any other traffic on that PTP customer didn't tell you about?

Is IP phone soft phone or hard?

Do a "get ether" to make sure your port speed and duplex are set where they should be

Thanks Guys. No collisions, No VLANS, straight PT to PT for data and voice. FW on Clan is 009 FW on Medpro is 060. How do I check the Wan-T1 clocking?

What are the differences of the IP-Codec. I am running G.729 but there are many more?

IP PHones will only support G711 (uncompressed) or G729 (compressed) all other choices won't work with IP hardphones.

As for your T1, you have to look at the routers that the T1 terminates onto.. If they're cisco you can do a "show interface serial (port #)" and also depending on the interface "show service-module" or "show controller t1"

FW on the Medpro is too old. Upgrade medpro to fw 72 (for hw11) or fw 75 (for hw 3).

Also upgrade CLAN to fw 11.

Thanks ALL! However, after successfully updated both the firmware of the clan and medpro, still static, pops, dropped calls? Any idea's? Can we use VLan's versus straight connect into their network. They have a 1.5 pt to pt between sites running their data. I did do a status ip-board on the medpro and found on the outgoing transmitted column 344 no routes since reset and 3 within the last hour. Does this mean their end is causing issues? I am in need of help and don't know where to go?

THANKS,

Not familiar with CM-R1.2 but on my g3si release 10 we had to have a couple of combo patches installed on the pbx by Avaya (basically they fixed what was being released on r11) Just a thought...

Also, have you tried placing an IP phone on the LAN to isolate the issue? Eliminate the WAN as a factor altogether.

Thanks all....Here is the story and issue resolved. The pt to pt T1 had timing issues. The ends were connected to routers which were not clocking correctly. The local lec tested and found the clock at -494 which should be around
-40 or so.

It is a wonder that the calls worked at all.

Thank you all, for your thoughts and recommmendations. This is the reason, I use this forum, frequent and always take all ideas.
