Good afternoon,

I just need some info on which IP phones can plug straight in to a network and hook straight onto an IP500 without needing anything extra.

I'm just distinguishing here with the digital and analogue phones which require special cards to be installed into the IP500 to allow them to connect.

We currently have a bunch of 16xx series and 5602 phones. I want to know if I can buy some second hand 4620 phones and they will just hook straight up through the network the same way as the 1603/1616/5602 phones do or is something extra needed in the IP500 for them to work with it.

Thanks

And, the reason for asking this is all the data sheets I can find for 462x phones say something like:

AVAYA 4621SW REQUIREMENTS

* Call Manager R1.3 or higher.
* TN799C or higher circuit pack (C-lan).
* TN2302AP circuit pack (Media Prowler).
* 1151B1 power supply, centralized power or Power Over Ethernet (POE).

Now the TN things appear to be cards for a Definity system. Does the IP500 need anything specifically put into it over and above what it already has for 16xx/56xx phones which is just the VCM, I believe.

I only just got my head around the idea that Digital phones (54xx et al) which are almost identical in appearance and features to the 56xx series, do actually require a specific card inside the IP500, and we wouldn't want the extra cost apart from obvious disadvantages.

Call Manager is presumably now the IP Office software?

Thanks again

depending on how many phones you are planning on adding, you may want to increase your vcm's

Also, buying second hand phones is a bad idea, especially IP phones.

A decent BP would cover all this for you.

See what my brain does when it's not thinking about phones.

nzschooltech, they will just work as long as a) the handsets actually work anyway b)you have enough VCM's spare and c)you have the correct bin files in the TFTP server (these are in the Manager folder by default) no extra hardware or licences are required :)

"What the Crocodile Hat....was that?

Call Manager is decidedly NOT IPO. Preceding CM was Definity while IPO used to be Network Alchemy.

CallManager is not IP Office but CallManager phones like the 46xx series can be deployed on a IP Office.
I see no reason why not to buy them second hand, there are parties on the market selling reliable used hardware and if you cannot affoerd new then go for used equipment.

Regarding the installation of the phones i suggest you read the appropriate docs which can be found here :

It covers all aspects of IP Office as hardware description and installation docs.

If you know your way around in deploying ip networks then adding ip phones should not be a problem.
