I have been playing with various settings trying to get this to work, but to no avail.

I have a sonicwall TZ210 on 5.9 OS, which I know isn't great for SIP but everything else works including forwarding of calls etc.

is it going to be a firewall issue or likely a system issue or could be either?

We use Sonicwall and this works fine. So:

Firmware of IP office?

What is your transport settings, network topology, on the sip line?

Do you have sip transformations enabled on the Sonicwall?

One quick thing you can test is to enable rtp keep alives on the VoIP tab of your LAN interface.

SIP transformations are off, the only thing one is Consistent NAT.

The phones are on the LAN (on one IP range), and the systems internal IP is on the WAN. Should that make a difference?

Keep alives are enabled on both WAN and LAN - Scope set to RTP and timeout is 15. Initial is enabled as well.

Network topology:

Firewall/NAT Type: Port Restricted Cone NAT
Binding Refresh: 15 secs
Public IP: x.60.x.x

Is this what you have?

Hay,
In most cases when signaling is okay but Audio is not, the RTP-Packets are not able to see eache other.
So check the Firewall and Routings.
Meanwhile you can try this on your Extension:

Allow Direct Media Path: Default = On
This settings controls whether IP calls must be routed via the system or can be routed alternately if possible within the network structure.
• If enabled, IP calls can take routes other than through the system. This removes the need for a voice compression channel. Both ends of the calls must support Direct Media and be using the same protocol (H.323 or SIP). Enabling this option may cause some vendors problems with changing the media path mid call.
• If disabled or not supported at on one end of the call, the call is routed via the system. RTP relay support allows calls between devices using the same audio codec to not require a voice compression channel.

regards

I have checked the firewall, all necessary ports are open, everything else related to SIP works fine, so unless it is something else I have missed in the firewall, but otherwise, I can only thing it is a system setting somehow.

Direct Media is On, but that won't affect mobile twinning I assume?

DavidCT, what setup do you use on your Network Topology? Also did you have to manually create any rules on the Sonicwall, above the wizard created rules?

Sonicwall:

Consistent nat off.
Sip transformations on.
Reboot.

Ip office:

Go to the sip line. Then transport tab. Set use network topology to none.
Reboot.

I didn't realise, but Network Topology was actually already set to None, so have just disabled consistent NAT and enabled SIP transformations. I always thought it was the other way around for Sonicwalls??, however it is all working now for the first time ever! So thanks!

Do I need to change any of the timeouts? In the past, we have had issues with the SIP trunks going to sleep after a certain time, and only when an outbound call is made will they kick back in again, and no inbound calls can get in until you do so, so hopefully this won't happen.

Where do I send the bill :)

I don't change any of my timers. But I do set my trunks to register every 5 minutes.

The only problem I have now is that I have effectively turned SIP ALG on, which means as we also have a few hosted VoIP phones for testing, this then breaks their inbound calls, so whilst I am glad it's now working, I would like to find a way without turning on SIP ALG?

Have you been able to get it to work with Consistent NAT on? and transformations off?
