We have a SIP Provider which needs a X-header to be able to accept emergency calls.

In Manager there is no way to add a X-header, does anyone know how to add a X-header?
In the SIP INVITE there must be a line like:
X-Postcode: 2000
That way the provider can add a location for the emergency call.

Of course we ask Avaya but it may take weeks to get a answer.

Can't it be done via the engineering tab on a SIP trunk? (although I don't have a clue what can be done here...)

Where are they based? Not routing emergency calls would probably get their operator's license revoked and insisting on X-headers (deprecated since RFC6648) wouldn't stand as any defence. They basically sound very dodgy.

*That said, my reading of the UK, OFCOM's conditions that cover emergency calls implies that they only apply to those providing telephone services to the general public, not private businesses. But then a business that can't call the fire brigade/ambulance is probably not going to have a very good conversation with their insurers/staff/etc so market forces probably self-correct that issue.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Have you tried using "Location" and set "Send Emergency Info" on the SIP line?

It's supposed to send the location information in the INVITE message when dialing an emergency shortcode but don't know which headers it will use since we don't need that here.

* to Janni because I had not noticed those options (even if I have not yet had a need to use them)

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

I cannot select/edit location and "Send Emergency Info" is enabled.

Many that is what is confusing the Sip provider
have you tried Disabling "Send Emergency info" instead?

I can just right-click and add new locations.

Then you can assign the hardware to a Location under "System" and an extension can be set to static Location or Automatic.
Guessing Automatic should match the phones IP Address to a Locaton.

Have only tested on a SE, don't have a IP500 with 10.1.

I know you can set a location on SE but you cannot on a single IP 500v2.

Here a example INVITE they like to receive:
INVITE sip:117@xx.xx.xx.xx:5060 SIP/2.0
From: "+32224yyyyy" <sip:+32224yyyy1@3starsnet.com>;tag=XyHQ5jUDQUjBH
To: <sip:117@provider.com:5060>
Call-ID: 1ca9fa3d-3983-1234-99be-b3acf341e146
CSeq: 86279243
X-Postalcode: 2000
Remote-Party-ID:<sip:+3222407901@provider.com>;privacy=no;screen=no

I have had all settings with a no go

Let me phrase things a bit differently. They, the very non-standards based line provider, have made YOU entirely responsible for your customer not being able to call emergency services - think about it and then step away from the stupidity and advise the customer to switch to a better line provider.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

I just tested a IP500v2 with 10.0 SP4 and there you can assign locations !?

Yes I never used it so I took a short look at it and I first need to create a location before i can assign one.

But it does not work with X-headers in SIP, there will be extra xml info in the SIP invite.

Okay, guess the only way to get this is to use an SBC that adds the X-header unless Avaya has some secret Engineering command.

This applies to 911 emergency services which we don't have in the civilized part of the world[bigsmile]
