Afternoon Everyone,

I am currently looking for a piece of (preferrably free) software which is able to monitor my network's IP address's. I would like it to be able to compare the monitoring against a text file or inputted data and alert me if an "unknown" IP address touches my network.

If this software exists I would be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction to it?

Thanks and Regards,
Mike Firth

You are really looking for an intrusion detection system I think. 'Unknown' IP's will probably touch your network all the time if you have any PC's with internet access.
I have used several programs in the past to monitor network activity.
Ethereal (for windows or Linux) is a good free network sniffer - will analyse any packet of info on your network. Interpretation of the data is up to you.
Nuzzler (from securepoint) is a good free IDS. It analyses network patterns and alerts you whenever it matches a suspicious pattern.
Go to to find these and other security programs. Mostly free.
