I want to have my mail server hosted on Win 2000 accept smtp connections only from my spam filtering service.

is there a native way to do this in Windows 2000 or will I have to resort to buying firewall software?

Are you using Exchange? I'm pretty sure there is a way to configure Exchange to do this. Not sure about doing it from the Win2K server itself.

exchange has a way to prevent relaying but that doesn't stop exploits such as RNDR spam

True, but I think Exchange also has a way to specify to "accept SMTP connections from the following", and I'm thinking you can specify it to only allow smtp connections from the IP Address of your spam filter.

If you are using Exchange, I would post this in that forum. I'm sure someone will have an answer quickly.

You were right, that option is there under the IMC settings. Many thanks.
