IP and TFTP Server

After reading the Avaya instructions on the TFTP server can be used, one option is that the IP phone code can be 'sectioned' off if you have 2+ locations. Thus, the IP phones at one location would download new code from a separate directory than another location. The only use I see from this is to separate one site to test code and then let the rest of the sites take the code once proven.

Can someone using the methodology of separate directories let me know why they did it that way? With 30+ locations in my company, I cannot see a benefit of keeping separate code for every location.

One reason would be the fact that you can specify settings (such as L2QOS, DNS server and a host of others) in the 46xxsettings.scr file. OR you can specify them in the DHCP server's 176 option.

To get a different version of this file to different sites would require the scenario you describe.
