I have been going through and upgrading the IOS on about 40 of my 2600 routers to IOS 12.3(22) to support MLPPP and dual T1 circuits. Today while well into this project without any previous issues, I upgraded a 2610 and now the router only boots into rommon mode. I get the error message "Not enough memory in the system to run this image" and "Error: Memory requirements exceed available memory" I have tried replacing the memory in the router with some other spare C2600 memory I have, but it did not help.

Is my router really lacking memory, or did something go wrong with the upload of or boot of the new 12.3(22) image?

How can I fix this?

Hello
Normally that should be a memory problem. In the case of corrupt IOS,it say can't load flash.... Anyway it's strange that the other upgrade went well. Are you sure all routers have the same amount of DRAM?
To resolve go to the Cisco image navigator to comfirm dram requirements.

Definitely one of 2 things...either there is too much on DRAM now, or the image is too big.

Is there a way from rommon to remove old stuff from DRAM, so that I can get down to just the image I want? I had done a write erase before downloading the 12.3(22) IOS.

It tells you the memory requirements when you download off CCO , compare that to what a sh version off the problem router has . if you post the exact image we can check the memory requiements.

Hello
You will need at least 8MB flash and 32 dram.If you have a copy of the original IOS you can reinstall it from Rommon using the TFTP.If interested we can post the instructions.
Regards

If it is complaining about 12.3 code then it will complain about 12.2 because the requirements are the same , you will have to go back to at least 12.1 which only requires 24 meg of dram , if its less than that you would have to go to 12.0 at 20 meg of dram .

Actually, where are you? I may have some. I would upgrade the router and get at least is-mz in the code, for IP Plus---without IP Plus in the code, you are very limited.

Hinesjrh left us stars!!!But did he resolve the problem and how??????

Perhaps he decided to upgrade the DRAM and flash...that's what I would do.

Burt

No, I have not resolved it yet. I am going to be on the road a lot today and tomorrow. I probably won't get a chance to work on this troubled router again until early next week. Thanks for the help so far.
