iomega hotburn install - loads, won't read cd in drive...any help?

the troubleshooting site says the burner won't support parrallel ports for the usb...don't know what those are...but i assume since my ports are next to eachother...anyway, it won't read the cd.

any ideas or experience?

oh yeah...

it gets me to the point of the gui but when i attempt to burn a cd, it says no disc. and looking at the cd inside, once it loads, it spins briefly then it begins a pattern of spin...stop...spin...stop...etc.
