Well, let's try this.
[ol][li]In Photoshop, make a 720 x 480 RGB image. Make it some distinctive color (pea green?).[/li]
[li]Click on the Channels tab (which is near the layers tab). Note that you now will see 4 channels called "RGB", "Red", "Green", and "Blue"[/li]
[li]At the bottom o the Channels Palette, click the "Create New Channel" icon, which looks like a little notepad.[/li]
[li]There should be a NEW channel called Alpha 1. Also, your color palette has changed so that the BG color is black and the FG color is white.[/li]
[li]Pick the brush tool and draw a big white happy face on your Alpha 1 chanel.[/li]
[li]Do a File-Save-As... and save this as schpadoinkle.pct. This means for file type, you must choose PICT file[/li]
[li]If you're using an earlier version of Photoshop, make sure "Alpha Channels" is checked. Older versions of Photoshop have the selection entitled "Ignore Alpha Channels", which means you DON'T want to check those.[/li]
[li]Open Premiere and import schpadoinkle.pct.[/li]
[li]Place schpadoinkle.pct on the timeline, over some other video, say something from an instructional Paris Hilton tape, and stretch it out to, the length you want, say, 10 seconds.[/li]
[li]Right-click on the still and choose video options >> transparency.[/li]
[li]Select Alpha Channel from the drop-down.[/li]
[li]One of the viewing options is to "view all" or "view through". It looks like a piece of paper peled back to reveal other paper. Click that. Ideally, you'll see Ms. Hilton and a superimposed green smiley face.[/li]
[li]It's possible you need to check or uncheck the reverse-key checkbox.[/li]
[li]Close the Transparency control by clicking (I think) OK[/li]
[li]Scrub your cursor over the two clips while holding the ALT key down. Again, you should se a gren happy face over Ms. Hilton.[/li]
[li]Try exporting this to a Quicktime clip or something.[/li]
[/ol]
Tell me if you see the right effect in the exported Quicktime.
Cheers,
