I am trying to troubleshoot one Windows 98 based computer which will randomly display the errror

Explorer has caused an Invalid Page Fault in module <unknown> at address 0x000004e4.

I have changed the memory in this computer twice already, disabled all internal and external CPU CACHE, and checked just about everything that I can as far as possible memory broblems, but haven't resolved the issue.

The error will occur when browsing a shared folder accross a network, when attempting to access the Windows Updates website, or when using a networked database application. I thought it may have something to do with network communication, but it also happens just randomly when using any program.

Whenever the error occurs, the only constant is the 0x4e4 memmory address.

I have tried searching Microsoft's support site, and I've tried a google search with many variations on the layout and spelling of the error, but I've not yet found a definitive answer.

Anyone have any more info about this one?

D/L and run memtest-86 to check the memory.
If it shows errors, them make sure only default memory settings are used in BIOS.

If default BIOS settings are already being used, then remove the RAM, clean its contacts with 91%(or higher) isopropyl alcohol, clean the RAM slots' contacts with an eraser, and reseat the RAM.

If no luck, then try the RAM in different slots.

If no good, then try different RAM.
