Invalid Page Fault/Spyware Removal

Hello ... Has any one ran into the problem of "Explorer causing an invalid page fault in explorer.exe" on boot up?
The user can sign into the NT domain, but the error halts the boot and nothing will happen when you attempt to close the message. Apparently a user was trying to uninstall the spyware, Slotch.

Any help would be appreciated.

read this over and consider replacing these files. Have 98 on CDROM?....version is FE or SE?....not using NT? Have all 98 .cab files on HDD? (C:\Windows\options\cabs) -or (C:\cabs) usually.
boot to a command prompt and run scandisk.
can you boot into safe mode? if so run scandisk while in it as well (it's a diff ver than in dos).
Can you run SpyBot and Adaware on the box?
