i am using windows 98se and a dial-up modem,my isp is ntlworld and i live in the uk.
i get into ntl or any site without trouble.HOWEVER when on-site, when clicking between pages etc i often get unexplained and quite long delays. at first, i put it down to heavy traffic but it does't seem to matter what time of day i'm on.i can only think that its the isp but i'd wecome any suggestions

hi bookwyrm, checked my registry, the "bad" key was as you described.i have a slightly odd situation in that i am carded-up to run a network but i do not and probably never will run a network since i'm a lone user, sitting in my lonely garret, peering out at the internet .can i completely disconnect from any network.i would prefer not to interfere with the pcs innards since its still under guarantee.anyway i've deleted the key (after backing up registry).i'll let you know how it goes.sounds promising..at least no disaster, up to now....regards barry

hi carrr, tried your run.....dll, went as you said so that looks ok. thanks..barry

still trouble.surf at reasonable speed then come to a dead stop for up to 2 mins.link then proceeds normally.long downloads do not appear to be interupted. its as tho the "system" is waiting for a particular signal/message.
as a matter for experiment, how do i completely disable networking ??

disabled my networking device manager using "device manager"
all looking good at the moment.no hangs of any kind.
thanks everyone for your assistance..barry

Barry,
Can you be more specific about your solution? I have your problem and it's driving me insane.

hi schlogg, i run windows98se.i have a networking card (nvidia) fitted but i am not connected to a network.
this is what i did :right click "my computer"/left click "properties"/right click "device manager"/ scroll to networking adaptor-right click/left click "properties"/click "general"/tick "disable in this hardware profile"
hope that this is of some value...regards barry

correction to last posting;-i left-clicked "device manager"
sorry about that...barry

Spot on Barry - I have an internal network card which I have no use for - I disabled it and have been surfing for an hour now with no problems. Well Done!!!!!
