Hi all,

I installed some anti-spyware software and it set a policy to lock my Internet explorer tools/internet options menu. I have turned this off in the anti-spyware software with no change and also uninstalled the anti-spyware software with no change. It looks like I will need to remove the policy myself.

I have XP home how do I remove a policy?

Thanks in advance...

With all IE browsers windows closed click start--run--type regedit and click ok. Doubleclick on each of these:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions

Open the Restictions key and look for NoBrowserOptions in the right pane and delete it. Then close regedit and restart the computer. It should work properly then.

Or in regedit click Edit then Find and search for NoBrowserOptions and delete it from the right pane when it's found.

Delete it.

If your an administator on your computer you can also try typing gpedit.msc in the run box. This will give you the local group policy settings. The IE settings your talking about are under user configuration, administrative templates, Internet explorer.

My guess is that the registry entry was coming from the anti-malware being run. This is common as an issue.

Thanks bcastner that did the trick.

1101001100110101 I have xp HOME and no gpedit.

SpyBot does this, and some others without sufficient user warning as to the consequences.

It is easy enough to fix.

Best,
