The issue that I am having is that I am hosting a few websites, when I installed Exchange 5.5 (SP4)
successfully, but there was not an Internet Mail Service connector listed in the "Connections" tab.
I saw where I could create a connection and did so, when setting this up it asked me for a @domainname.com,
I put in my first domain name, let's just say it is I added my other domains (reroute smtp traffic).
The issue that I am having is that I can't get the POP mail to work correctly for domains other than
@domain1.com (Exchange mailboxs work find with all domains) I am putting in mail.domainname.com for
the POP and SMTP information, which works with @domain1.com addresses, but not others, now I can send
internet mail from those other domain names, but I can't receive, it keeps on asking me for a username
and password....and I know that I am using the correct username and password.

Any ideas? Do I need to set up a IMS for each domain if I want to do POP email with them?

I would really appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide.

Yes, when I setup the IMS this is what I did, but it only receives email (smtp) to those accounts associated with the original web domain name entered, not any of the other ones that I have entered. Any ideas

Do the others has DNS MX entries pointing to the public IP of the server.

Chris.

ims.....routing tab.....add new entry.....i.e. domain2.com....accepted as inbound

Hummm,

Problem with Multiple Domains on a single server. The first thing that we have to establish is whether you have MX entry for each Domain name that you are using. This MX entry should point to your A record in the DNS. So if you have three domains on your server, you should have three MX record entries one each atleast for the domians. If you dont have these entries you still be able to send mail because on your outgoing mail your Domain name is not resolved however its resoloved when its coming in the Server. Now as you have added the Reroute incomining traffic in Exchange you will be able to receive mail on the Server.

To check whether you have MX entries for these domains use the nslookup command

Here is what you should do.

On any windows 2000, NT 4.0 or XP machine( make sure its not behind proxy or a firewall or you will have to add the DNS entries of the ISP DNS server if you are not running your own DNS connected to the Internet).

Go to command Prompt
and type
nslookup <Enter>
It will open up the NSlookup ulitity

No wirte the following command

set type=mx <enter>
> ( a prompt like this will appear)
> TYpe the domain name of your mail server. If the record is there it will show up otherwise it will give you an error)

After confirming that your entry is there
Now we come to the POP connections. I totally agree that this is a #@$^& to configure

Here is a good tip
when connecting to pop accounts use the following method

Username: NTdomainname/NTaccountname/mailboxalias

Pass: password

also ensure that you have set up an extra e mail address (SMTP) for each mail box that you have configured to receive this new mail address.

Like they should have

SMTP User1@domain1.com
Smtp user1@domain2.com
SMTP User1@domain3.com
SMTP USer1@domain4.com

Best of luck

Ahsan
