I have a desktop with Vista installed and connected via DSL to the internet and working perfectly.
I installed Virtual PC 2007 and successfully installed Windows XP Pro in it.
I have tried so many sites via google to see how to connect to the internet from the Windows XP from within the virtual machine and never found any complete clear answer. Please help me, not just using abbreviations like CIS or NAT but also telling me what they are, where to find them, and how to check and fix. I already installed the loopback in the host, among other efforts.
By the way, the icon on the tray shows connection only if I specify IP, Gateway, etc manually. The moment I set IP to be detected automatically, this indication gets yellow.
In both cases, IE6.

Many thanks in advance.

Yes. As I check Device manager in XP, I see the adapter.

start vpc2007, highlight the xp vpc, choose properties-network.
here you have the option not connected, local only,
nat ( and the nic of your host.
choose the nic of the host, apply, start the guest.
give the guest a ip out of the same subnet like the host,
if you are using pppoe you need to install it, if you use ppp it should work right away.

If you XP is using the correct Host Machine's Network Adapter as mentioned above and you are still having problems check for any blocking by the Host's Firewall.

In the Network Adapter Properties of the Host Machine check that any setting for "Virtual........." is ticked.

Thank you all for this feedback.
The problem is now solved.
From the VPC, settings, Networking I had chosen the network adapter. Now I chose NAT instead (Thanks Lemon) and then put IP automatic detection in TCP/IP in the network properties of the Virtual machine, and Bob's my uncle :o)

Microsoft never thinks to add in the OS installation selections related to VM installation that would take care of such things.

Many thanks everybody :o))
