Hi,

An end user has Windows Millenium and has Internet Explorer 5.5, SP2. This more relates to Internet Explorer but resides on an ME laptop. When connecting to the Internet I cannot connect to any page. The following error displays, "c:\windows\system\shdoclc.dll\dnserror.htm".

All DNS settings are correct. I tried reinstalling IE5.5. I cannot find any articles on MS website. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Zoey

I think that error only comes when the computer isn't online. Are you online when you open the browser? -Growing Haze

Yes, the computer has an IP Address. I am logged onto the network with no problems. I am able to browse the network. Just cannot get onto Internet Explorer.

Satishkumar,

Thanks very much for the thread. I checked all replies to this thread. I tried all suggestions and stil am having the problem. A lot of the suggestions were helpful, but still not joy Guess I will have to reinstall WindowsME.

Thanks,
Zoey

It's a long shot, but why not try and upgrade to EI 6.0? A friend was having an issue with 5.5 (I don't remember what exactly) and it worked for them.

Sorry for the delayed response, been too lazy.

I had lots of problems with IE on Win ME with kernel32.DLL errors and all sorts of other stuff. I did a repair of IE and it worked fine. But as Alcom says upgrading to IE6.0 would also be a very good idea.

10091976,

Thanks for your response. I thought about IE6 but the only way to get this is to download from Microsofts website and I obviously cannot do that because I cannot get an Internet connection. I did copy IE6 to a CD but when you run the setup it needs to go out to a download site on the Internet to finish the setup. With IE55 I don't have that problem. I can run the setup and finish installing the program via a CD without having to finish the download from the Internet.

My problem is much different than the problem you describe. It is specifically related to the shdoclc.dll file.

Zoey,

I have given a link below that gives a download for shdoclc.dll. Probably rpelacing the file would help.

I just came across then above link via google so am not too sure how helpful it will be.

Also did you try unregistering and then re-registering the DLL ?

Satishkumar

What commands in WindowsME would you use to register and unregister the DLL?

Thanks

Same as in the other Windows flavours.
START--->RUN :
regsvr32 -u FILENAME OR FULL PATH (TO UNREGISTER)
regsvr32 FILENAME OR FULL PATH (TO REGISTER)

Satishkumar

I ran into this problem the other day and after calling internet provider, decided the probelm was microsoft related. I was able to ping ip address and dns server, but not able to ping url. Opening internet explorer gave me the same message as in original post. Microsoft walked me through to solve the problem. Apparently, when i had to reinstall windows me just the day before, files were duplicated and caused them to be corrupted. Giving the duplicate files .old extention seemed to solve the problem.
