Is there any way to forward email to an outside internet email address in exchange 2000. For example i have some users who work outside the company who have xyz@mycompany.com email addresses but they would like all of the email that comes to this address to be forwarded to a hotmail or yahoo mail account. I dont know if this is possible, any help would be appreciated.

Does anybody know if this can be done, i havent been able to find any information about it.

You have to create an contact for every mail adress that you want to use.

Example
You have an user which has user1@company.com and he wants to forward his email to another email adress which lies outside of the company, user1@outside.com.

First you create an contact in Active Directory and put in the email adress that you want to forward to.
Second you open the user that you want to forward.
Choose Echange General - Delivery Options - Forward to (in the forward to field you choose teh contact that you newly created.)

I think I am think! I dont get that could you explain again.

thanks kev

It's simple and it works,

you right click on your domain in active directory and creat a new contact with the OUTSIDE email address.
then you creat the inside mailbox and forwarding rule.

its easy.

Could you do a Distro Group and have it with contacts? Then set it up as Alternate Recipient and click to have it go both places. Never tried it but I hate rules unless you want the users to be responsible for the mess. Dan

Thanks for that, I have setup the contacts in the users container and under the exchange general tab I set the E-mail address to be forwarded. When I send an Email to this account it does not forward. The Email does not bounce it just sits in the internal mailbox.

ANy ideas what I have done wrong??

I can try it. It was just an idea so I'll see if it works in a fresh enviroment.

If you e-mail the group you made does that work? If not work on that first. Dan

I didn't mean using the Distro group. I was talking about forward mail generally. It doesn't seem to work

If you specify an internal account as alternate does that work? Dan
