I have recently upgraded to Windows 2000 from Windows 98SE.

With Windows 98SE I was able to set up connection sharing with two NIC cards and checking the sharing box on my local network card.

I have kept the same set-up with Windows 2000, but the Macintosh can no longer touch the internet.

Any suggesions?

So your PC is sharing its internet connection. Both 98 & 2k act as dhcp server when you enable internet connection sharing - so (knowing nothing about Macs), only thing I'm wondering is how you Mac is configured to pick up its IP address (2k may give it a different Ip to 98).

You need to create an account on 2000 that matches EXACTLY the username and password on your mac.

Else, you can enable the guest account on your 2000 box NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!

Give the mac a static IP.
Make sure the gateway AND name server is the IP of the 2000 box + add a valid DNS server [any valid one will do].

Make sure you still have tcp-ip over appletalk enabled on your mac.

Finally: If I was you I would use a proxy server on the 2000 box. The best one to use is Analog X, search for it on the web. Very easy to set up, especially for a macuser.

Better still, get that old dusty 486 out the attic and set up a dedicated box and run a good firewall on it...

Good luck. ] always a sucker to the greatest lie of all: will only take a minute [
